Contractor in BoringAcreage, outbuildings and a long wet winter

Boring is country living at the edge of the metro: houses on acreage, shops and barns, long driveways and more rain than town. We take care of the roofs, siding, decks and fences that keep all of it standing.

Boring isn't a city at all. It is an unincorporated community in Clackamas County, spread along Highway 212 and US 26 between Damascus and Sandy. Homes here sit on bigger lots, many with a detached shop, a barn or a run of fencing that goes on for a while. That changes the work. A roofing contractor in Boring is often asked to look at the house and the outbuildings in the same visit, and we are glad to do both.

The land rises toward Mt. Hood from here, and the weather changes with it. Boring tends to get more rain than Gresham, and when snow falls in the metro it often sticks here first and stays longer. Tall firs shade roofs and drop needles in the valleys. Moss grows fast. Deck boards and fence posts stay wet most of the year. Those conditions drive most of our Boring calls: roof repair, siding rot, and deck and fence rebuilds.

Many Boring houses were built in stages and added onto over the years: an older farmhouse with a later addition, or a newer home with an old barn behind it. Matching siding, roofing and trim across those pieces takes patience, and we take the time. Shawn walks the property with you, writes down everything you want done and gives you a clear bid, so a long list of repairs on acreage feels manageable.

Snow, shade and needles

As the land climbs toward the mountain, wet snow and ice can sit on Boring roofs longer than in town, and shade from tall firs keeps them damp afterward. Moss and needles hold water in valleys and along the eaves. Keeping branches trimmed back helps a lot. When a roof is near the end, the right underlayment and flashing for a wet, shaded site matter.

Houses, shops and barns

Rural properties have more than one roof. A shop, a barn or a woodshed often has older roofing or siding than the house, and it ages faster. We can repair or reside an outbuilding, rebuild a rotted door frame, or stain and seal wood siding so it holds up longer. Looking at several buildings in one visit saves you time.

County permits, not city

Because Boring is unincorporated, building permits go through Clackamas County rather than a city hall. Rules for outbuildings and decks can differ from those in town. We'll tell you up front if a permit is needed for your project and what that means for the schedule, so nothing catches you off guard later.

Do you work on barns and shops in Boring?

Yes. We repair and replace roofing and siding on detached shops, barns and sheds, and we fix doors and framing that have rotted. Tell us about every building on the list when you call, and we'll look at all of them during one estimate visit to your Boring property.

Is Boring, Oregon really a town?

Not officially. Boring is an unincorporated community in Clackamas County, so there is no city hall. It has its own post office and a strong local identity, though. For permits the county is the office that matters, and we'll tell you whether your project needs one.

Can you rebuild a long fence on acreage near Boring?

We can. Long runs of fence on rural lots take a beating from wet ground, wind and animals leaning on them. We replace failed posts, rebuild sections or put in a new run, and we can stain it to slow the weathering. You'll get a clear written bid that covers the whole length.
