Vancouver is close to home for us in miles, about eighteen from our Gresham shop over the I-205 bridge, but it sits in a different state with its own rules. So we keep it simple. If you're a Vancouver homeowner with a project in mind, call and tell us about it. We know the houses here well because they share our weather. East Vancouver, around Cascade Park and Fishers Landing, sits across the river from the mouth of the Gorge and catches the same east wind that hits Gresham and Troutdale. Older neighborhoods near downtown, like Hough, Arnada and Shumway, have early twentieth-century homes with wood siding and old windows. Felida and Salmon Creek, to the north, are mostly newer subdivisions. If your job isn't a fit, we'll say so, and you won't have lost more than a phone call.
The work those homes need will sound familiar: roofs worn down by moss and wind, siding with soft spots at the bottom, windows that fog, exterior paint that has given up on the sunny side. Neighbourhoods we work inThe same east wind
East Vancouver faces the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge, so homes around Cascade Park and Fishers Landing take the same winter east wind as Gresham. It loosens shingles, drives rain into siding joints and knocks fences over. After a windstorm, check the roof edges, the ridge and the east wall of the house first.
Old Vancouver, newer Clark County
Vancouver's historic neighborhoods near downtown have older homes with wood siding, trim and windows worth keeping. Farther north and east, much of Clark County was built from the 1980s on, and those houses are now coming due for roofs, windows and paint. The right plan depends a lot on which kind of house you have.
